Legislation has been introduced in the House and Senate that you should be aware of. Here are links to the bills: HF 3324 and SF 2989. The result of the provisions contained in this legislation is nothing short of permanent gun registration in the State of Minnesota for pistols and semi-automatic assault weapons. If this bill becomes law, every time a pistol or semi-automatic military-style assault weapon is transferred -- even between two private parties -- the state would keep a record of who bought it, who sold it, and when the transfer occurred. There is no exception for antiques or historically significant weapons. In addition, pistols may not be loaned for hunting or target practice if the loan is intended for more than 12 hours without having a transfer occur (and therefore a NICS check being done and the gun being registered).
